I’m a sucker for mystery bags.  I have trouble passing them up every time I see them…but since I’m a poor student I try to limit myself to the once a year New Years ones they have at Smart Maple/One’s Better Living  :3  And they’re always full of crap!  Wonderful, mystery crap.  So this year, when I saw on Omiyage’s blog they were doing some Lucky bags I...

some things I made as christmas gifts
For my cousin and her two friends that stayed with us for Christmas.   For the lovely Emma, though I should have fixed it a bit for this photo.  Actually, it was a bit wonked anyway (sorry! :S)  Christmas is stressful.  I made a matching one for the wonderful Becky but with different letters :)   I attempted to make this better with fun things in Picnik.  Well, you can see creepy Mynnion...

Long dresses are my new fave.  My friend Tala took this just before we went to find the cherry blossoms in High Park for a picnic last weekend.  :)  Hope the weather is better wherever you are, this weekend its rain, rain, rain in the GTA.  Well, at least it’s not beautiful and sunny while I’m sick in bed (muahaha) More pictures at my other blog, don’t forget your lunch!

lbk-film: Check out the brand new Media section of the website for some Lady Bare Knuckles teaser film stills. Trailer is also coming soon! Also don’t forget to keep up the Support for the film! I was looking for inspiration for a project and I came across an image of Elizabeth I by Alexia Sinclair - and promptly got distracted for about two hours looking at her website and reading her entries on the Brittanica blog.   Really beautiful photography/digital illustration/costuming…and she does it all O_o  It makes me want to curl up in a hole because it’s so amazing - you should...

colour files
I feel like I’m cheating when I post about school stuff, but oh well.  I (mostly) really like how this project is turning out so far, so I thought I’d share.   For my Advanced Colour Theory class my teacher has us making colour “files” or palettes, inspired by a post by Jack Bredenfoerder from Landor.  I took inspiration from illustrations by Edmund Dulac, and paired them...

I always ask myself “why do I always do this?”  but it’s because I don’t know how to function without a million things to do.  I seem to thrive on all-nighters and intense stress.  Well, sort of.  Maybe I just want to think so. Trying to find inspiration. http://jonsi.com/ http://www.complexgeometries.com

Hi friends! In an effort to make my lunches I’ve got a new blog if you want to follow along :) http://dontforgetyourlunch.tumblr.com/ Also, I’ll divert all my food speak to there…in an effort to organize.  I am just loving my kitchen lately!  I don’t think I’ve ever cooked so much.

Indigo dyeing in Sanxia
About half of my Mom’s family lives in Sanxia, just outside of Taipei.  She says when she bought property there for them (long gone) it was very rural, but now there’s condos everywhere with all the things that come with them!  The old market street is still there, but most of the original shops have moved elsewhere or gone out of business.  Actually, here’s a really great...

Okay, well it’s 4am and I can’t sleep (My back hurts, but less when I’m sitting I guess.  Was rear-ended!  Lady squooshed my cupcakes! Grr.) so I thought I’d do this.    Mom thought that since we were in Taiwan we’d pop over to China for a week to see some sights.  We took a tour (a Taiwanese tour, in Mandarin.  I understood nothing.) which was a bit of a drag (okay,...

Juming Museum
The first weekend after I arrived in Taiwan, my uncle took some time off to spend with Mom and I.  Much like the rest of my trip, I had no idea where we were going, but after about an hours drive out of Taipei city and some time around and through some mountains we arrived at Juming Museum.   To be honest, even though Ju Ming is an internationally renowned artist, I had never heard of him.  But...

Echo Villa and a tour of Hualien (Hualien part 3)
As I mentioned in my previous post, we stayed in a beautiful bed and breakfast in Hualien called Echo Villa.  Even though the website is in Chinese only, I encourage you to take a look, they have some beautiful photos (and in my excitement and desire to sleep I forgot to take pictures of our room, so you can look here). I’m totally kicking myself for not taking more pictures of this place....

Shrimping and River Tracing (Hualien Part 2)
The first night we were in Hualien, we went shrimping.  I was not something I chose…not so fond of crawly things with beady eyes.  But my Mom, a tomboy as a kid, was really excited (and plus, I really had no choice, my Aunt and her friend planned this trip!).  Anyway, it ended up being really fun!   We went river tracing two days after, which was fun but super tiring, mostly because I am a...

well, I guess I’ve been hiding.  Not from the internet, just from you, tumblr.  I’ve spent entirely too much time on the internet during the past couple days (finished reading Fruits Basket in 3 days and feeling like maybe I should have spaced it out so it would have lasted longer…spending entirely too much time playing stupid facebook games, how embarrassing!).  Been feeling a...

Taroko Gourge (Hualien part 1)
On Monday, Mom and I went took a train to Hualien for three days of sightseeing.  Hualien is a county on the Eastern coast of Taiwan, as well as its capital.  It’s very mountainous, and much more rural.  The train took us past a lot of farmland, though the farms are not acres and acres belonging to one person like in Canada, just relatively small.  We stayed in a lovely bed and breakfast,...

night market
My most vivid memories of Taiwan from my visits when I was little are of the night market.   I was so excited to experience it again after 10 years and it was just the same as I remembered!   Because the market is usually pretty crowded (actually, most markets are crowded in general, not just at night) you find a lot of food on a stick, for easy eating while you stand up.   You just take a...

up in the air
Well, I’m getting ready to go off to the airport to board my plane to Taiwan.  My Mom left last night…that’s what we get for using my dad’s frequent flier miles!  Two different airlines!  Going to visit my Mom’s side of the family, I haven’t seen them for 10 years!  This will be exciting…though I’m a bit nervous, and my Mandarin is as usual,...

It’s so beautiful in High Park right now…the beautiful cherry blossoms are…er, blossoming, so Gaelen and I went to visit them yesterday.  It was a lovely sunny day, so I packed a late lunch and we went for a walk.  I was hoping to have a little picnic under a tree, but there were a lot of people taking pictures (and flying bugs all over the ground in one otherwise perfect spot)...

Hey there tumblr Just thought I’d stop by with a quick picture of my eveningwear on the runway from my class’s show, Serpentinata, this past Friday.  I was much too mesmerized to take photos, but the ones that are showing up from the professional photographers at the end of the runway are infinitely better anyway!  The Fashion Event Planning class did an AMAZING job on the show,...

Today was such a beautiful, warm day…albeit a little bit cloudy but still nice and bright.  Which, of course, meant that everyone decided to go out and enjoy the weather, as they should, but it also meant that pretty Unionville Main Street was completely congested.  We ended up at a park with a pond, and really, I think it was better.  While I wish it was summer and everything was green, I...

This week has been so hectic I have barely been able to sleep, but I’m still in a pretty good mood!  Though, I’m glad that I don’t have school tomorrow because I am burning out.  My eveningwear dress for school was due on Tuesday, so of course I didn’t sleep very much over the weekend in an attempt to get everything done.  I like how it turned out, though I didn’t...

So, yesterday was my birthday, and I kind of half-forgot that people sometimes do things on their birthdays, so I invited people over two days before (for a Friday night!  What was I thinking?!).  Needless to say, no one could come (except my good friend Tala and her boy! Thanks for coming!), but I made cake anyway.  Baking is fun! But first, I will show you the tiny sandwich cottages Gaelen made...

hello from philly!
I meant to do this yesterday, but of course I am lazy, and this is technically my vacation so that’s the excuse I am going to use to soothe my brain while I procrastinate on all the work I should be doing.  I’m in Philadelphia, how exciting! I spent entirely too much time this weekend playing games (Cake Mania…The Sims 2…why am I telling you this?  Cake Mania is a horrible game, but so addictive, that’s why.  And The Sims, I really needn’t say any more.) but I did get a some cleaning done!  I finally got some hooks up and cleaned off my drafting table so I have room to work.  But I’m most excited about my...

inspiration - Anne Boleyn
This semester we’re doing eveningwear in my Design class, and as usual we had to pick an inspiration and do up a board for it (I hate inspiration boards!).  I would show you mine but we haven’t gotten them back yet.  So, my theme is “Anne Boleyn,” partly because I watched the first two seasons of “The Tudors” over the winter break and also because I’ve...

My first week back at school is over!  Yaaay.  Okay, fine, I only had two days of classes because my school is weird and we started on Wednesday.  But still, it was tiring putting all those due dates in my calendar and starting to see my weeks fill up with homework homework homework.  Somehow I swung Fridays off! But anyway, I really should be cleaning my house but I’d much rather show you...

Okay, okay, I really should keep up with this but I really didn’t have much to say this summer!  And then school happened (I really should be sewing right now) but I think I’m (finally!) getting better at managing my time and feeling a little bit more in control, so hello again! Today Gaelen and I went to check out the Day of the Dead festival at the Harbourfront…except that it...

I am really not good at this updating thing.  In general my life has been a stupid crazy whirlwind and the downtime I was hoping for this summer is not happening EVER.  Oh well! tenshillings-sixpense: I had always found unpacking strangely therapeutic. Like, by claiming a dresser to be my own, I had conquered one more corner of the globe – if only just a room in Manhattan. And now—with my welcoming over and my bags emptied, it was silent. Silent enough to hear horns ten blocks away. Silent enough to hear the hum of the refrigerator down the hall. Silent enough to hear...
